2 Week - My journey in ergonomic keyboard
After the first week, I started typing with more confidence. I was still slow, but at least more comfortable. I kept practicing on sites like edclub, Keybr, typ.ing, Monkeytype, and the official site for KSA: ZSA Training.
But then, my first crisis hit me.
My wife message me, if you can read Portuguese, you can see how bad I was replying, if not, then you can imagine.
I had remapped some keys for Portuguese, but it still felt awkward because I needed to switch layers and long-press certain keys. I just wasn’t feeling it yet! Then I remembered something from my previous keyboard, which was also ANSI. Since it didn’t have my beloved accent keys, I used a trick that I believe only works on Apple: a shortcut to quickly switch between languages. That was it — my solution.
Stats
In my first week, I was typing around 20–30 WPM. Now, after some practice and training, I can type about 50–60 WPM. Still, it feels slow in a real test, because when it comes to special characters and mixing upper and lower case, my speed drops a lot. Also, it’s very different to type what the computer tells you compared to typing what you actually want to write — they are two distinct tasks.
Here’s a short video I made today, just so you get the feeling:

Review
- My speed has improved a lot.
- I’m still struggling with special characters.
- I’m still remapping keys and experimenting with the Portuguese layout.
- Sometimes my keys get stuck or don’t register, probably because I need to curl my fingers a bit more.
